Why PYROTEGA?

SAFETY REDEFINED – INTELLIGENT PV RAPID SHUTDOWN: PV systems are a long-term investment. At the same time, high electrical energy is generated on roofs and open areas. PYROTEGA® protects these systems by continuously monitoring PV strings and detecting critical conditions such as arcs, overcurrents and noticeable power losses at an early stage – before an electrical issue can turn into a fire.

In an emergency, PYROTEGA® disconnects the affected strings from the DC circuit within a very short time and thus significantly reduces the fire load. The rapid shutdown, even before smoke or flames are visible, helps to avoid damage to the roof, building envelope and surroundings and creates additional safety for operators, emergency services and all persons in the building.

The AI-based arc detection is built on trained models and sets new standards in response time, sensitivity and intelligence. PYROTEGA® combines fast power electronics with smart evaluation and therefore offers more than classic protection devices: an active, traceable fire protection concept specifically for modern PV systems.

Functions & Features

PYROTEGA® combines several safety-relevant functions in a single system and can – depending on the variant – be used as a central shutdown and monitoring unit for PV strings.

AFCI with AI-based detection

intelligent arc fault detection

The integrated AFCI function uses AI-based models to detect typical and atypical arc signatures. This allows faults to be identified at an early stage and shutdowns to be triggered in a targeted and traceable manner.

DC disconnection (firefighter switch)

rapid separation from the DC bus

PYROTEGA® enables rapid disconnection of affected PV strings. The function can be triggered automatically in the event of a fault or via a defined firefighter interface in order to reduce the fire load in the building.

Power measurement & monitoring

transparency at string level

Continuous acquisition of currents, voltages and power for each PV string enables ongoing condition monitoring. Noticeable power losses can be detected early and analyzed in a targeted manner.

GSM communication

no local IT infrastructure required

Thanks to integrated GSM communication, PYROTEGA® can also be used where no LAN or WLAN infrastructure is available. Alarms and status information are transmitted directly via the mobile network.

WLAN or LAN connectivity

flexible to match the project

As an alternative to GSM, PYROTEGA® can be integrated via WLAN or classic LAN interfaces. This allows the system to be connected to existing control and monitoring systems – without additional mobile communication costs.

UI integration & alarms

clear view for operators & service

Via a user interface (e.g. web UI or app, depending on project), alarms, active shutdowns and historical data are visualized. Operators and emergency services keep a clear overview of the system status at all times.

Safety standards & norms (target design)

PYROTEGA® is designed to meet relevant standards and guidelines in the field of equipment safety, fire shutdown and arc fault interruption:

Note: The exact configuration, variants and final standard coverage will be documented in the final data sheets and declarations of conformity for each project.

Technology – what’s inside PYROTEGA?

PYROTEGA® is available in different device sizes for various numbers of PV strings. Each device is fully equipped and consists of a central motherboard and a corresponding number of frontboards – each frontboard is responsible for one string.

  • High-voltage DC isolation and switching modules for each monitored string
  • Sensor modules for currents, voltages and further measured values per string
  • Evaluation unit with microcontroller / embedded system
  • Communication interfaces (GSM, LAN, WLAN)
  • UI-based operation and visualization via the PYROTEGA interface

In the first expansion stage, operation and monitoring are carried out entirely via our own UI (e.g. web or app interface). Integration into control and monitoring systems as well as direct inverter connection via MODBUS are planned as future extensions and will, once available, be rolled out via OTA updates to devices already in the field.

From the first device generation onward, inverters can additionally be monitored via temperature sensors in their vicinity, allowing thermal anomalies to be detected at an early stage.

Detailed data sheets (voltage ranges, current carrying capacity, degrees of protection, interfaces) will be provided separately and depend on device size and customer specification.

Typical technical key data
(target values – in development)

  • System voltage: 1200–1500 V DC
  • Rated current per string: up to 100 A
  • Short-circuit current: up to 1000 A (1 s rating)
  • Differential current evaluation for advanced fault detection
  • Supply via external 230 VAC source
  • Future option: self-supply from a PV string (especially for ground-mounted systems)
  • Detection of defined fault patterns (overcurrent, inconsistencies, arcs)
  • Suitable for rooftop, façade and ground-mounted installations
  • Can be integrated into existing fire protection concepts

Benefits for operators, planners and emergency services

More transparency

Clearly traceable states and events help to better understand systems and make informed decisions.

Additional safety

Thanks to rapid shutdown capabilities and targeted monitoring, the risk in the event of a fault can be significantly reduced.

Flexible integration

PYROTEGA® can be considered for new installations or retrofits – depending on technical feasibility and on-site requirements.
